After the success of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, it looks like a Resident Evil 4 Remake is on the way next. Here's everything we know.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Development Team Size Capcom
Resident Evil has seen phenomenal success with the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, reimagining the classics with new story elements, controls, and gameplay. With impressive sales and reviews, it's no surprise that Capcom wants to keep the remake train rolling.
A recent report suggests that Resident Evil 4 is the next in line for a remake, which would make sense as its the next mainline entry after Resident Evil 3. Of course, remaking Resident Evil 4 is a bit trickier considering it's considered by many to be a near-perfect game.
Capcom seems to be up the test, however, especially if the last two remakes are any indication. From what the report says, the latest remake has been in the works for a while. Here's everything we know about the Resident Evil 4 remake.
According to the report from VGC, early preparation for the remake has been happening since 2018, and Capcom is eyeing a release date in 2022. Most likely, Capcom would want to release Resident Evil 8 before another remake. The development will supposedly be headed by M-Two, a new studio founded by the former head of Platinum Games, Tatsuya Minami.
M-Two did help with development on the Resident Evil 3 Remake, and the rumor says that the development of RE 4's remake would also be worked on by the Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 teams. Of course, only time will tell on the exact developers, once there's an official announcement.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Story
The Resident Evil 4 remake would, of course, follow the story of the original game, although Capcom could possibly make minor changes as they did with Resident Evil 2 and 3. The game takes place in 2004, six years after the events of Raccoon City, and once again follows Leon Kennedy. Now a U.S. government agent, Leon travels to a rural village in Spain to rescue the President's daughter, who's been captured by a mysterious cult. Leon has to contend with a new parasite called Las Plagas, and while trying to save Ashley, the President's daughter, he finds connections to his past and Albert Wesker. Considering Resident Evil 4 is more contemporary than two or three, most of the story would likely be kept intact.

Gameplay is also tricky with the Resident Evil 4 remake, as it's not nearly as dated as the previous game. RE 4 created the basis that both the recent remakes are inspired by. The over-the-shoulder combat would likely remain mostly the same, although with a few refinements and tweaks from Resident Evil 2 and 3. Resident Evil 4 has been remastered and re-released on pretty much every platform since the GameCube, so it's hard to say how much the gameplay could be improved with a remake. Focusing on different body parts and dismemberment, like in the RE 2 and 3 remakes, would likely be more of a focus, however.
